Before the big day
Our physicians would be happy to meet you before the big day. We can schedule a complimentary consultation in our office so you can have the opportunity to meet the doctor and ask any questions you may have before the birth of your child.
At the hospital
Our physicians see newborns at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center, and we share this service in rotation with another pediatric clinic. Whether you deliver at Mt. Hood Medical Center, Portland Adventist Medical Center, Portland Providence Medical Center, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, or any other hospital, simply inform the hospital which pediatrician you have selected and the name of our clinic. When your baby is born, the hospital will contact our office, and one of our physicians or a covering physician will do the initial Hospital Newborn Exam. The hospital will also make sure than any questions or information about your baby is shared immediately with our clinic. The hospital will give you a packet before you and your baby are discharged. Please be sure to bring this packet to the first office visit.
Within a day or two of hospital discharge
After being discharged from the hospital, you should call the office as soon as possible to schedule the newborn exam and the two week check-up. It is usually best to see your baby in the office within 2-4 days from the hospital discharge. You will also need to contact your insurance company as soon as possible to add your baby onto your plan. While most insurance companies typically give you up to 30 days to complete this process, it is best to complete this step as soon as possible to avoid complications.
Scheduling check-ups and immunizations
Our doctors follow the schedule for well child exams as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Bright Futures. At each well child visit, we will ask you to complete a Bright Futures questionnaire and/or other screening tools. You can see the recommended checkup schedule in the Vaccine Schedule and Info section.
Before you leave the office
After each well child visit, please remember to stop by the reception desk to schedule your next well visit. This ensures that your child will be able to see his or her regular physician at a time that works best for you. At your first office visit, you should receive a newborn information packet from us. If you do not receive it, please feel free to ask for it. It has much valuable information on what to expect from your newest family member.
